As a Sales Person at Japan, you will own sales for the Life Sciences domain at Japan - IT drives revenue by selling software, data solutions, or IT services to organizations in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and academic research sectors.
This role requires a unique blend of sales expertise, technical IT knowledge, and a strong understanding of scientific research and development workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development: Identify and prospect new clients within the life sciences sector (e.g., biopharma companies, academic institutions, contract research organizations). This involves cold calling, networking, and attending industry events and conferences.
- Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers, such as C-level executives, IT managers, and lab managers.
- Sales Presentations & Demonstrations: Prepare and deliver compelling presentations and product demonstrations that highlight how IT solutions can solve specific scientific and business challenges, such as data management or lab efficiency.
- Needs Assessment & Solution Design: Understand client needs and collaborate with technical and product teams to tailor solutions and ensure seamless integration and customer satisfaction.
- Negotiation & Closing: Negotiate contract terms and pricing to close deals and achieve or exceed sales targets and quotas.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to inform sales strategies and identify new opportunities for growth.
- Sales Administration: Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and pipeline management using CRM software (e.g., ModelN, Salesforce).
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Degree in Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, etc.) or a related technical/IT field is often required; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Domain: Life sciences – Discovery, Pre-clinical and Research, Clinical Services, Pharmacovigilance and Safety, Regulatory and Compliance, LIMS – Laboratory and Quality, Pharma manufacturing, Supply chain, Serialization, Marketing automation, Sales and commercial operations, Patient engagement, Market access, Knowledge management, Digital Health Platforms, Remote patient monitoring, Patient adherence/Mobile based health, Risk management through prediction, Decentralized trials, Digital Therapeutics. Experience in one or more these areas.
- Experience: 15+ years in IT. Proven track record in sales, specifically within the life sciences, healthcare, or enterprise software/SaaS (Software as a Service) industries. Experience navigating long sales cycles and managing complex deals is highly valued.
- Technical Expertise: A strong understanding of the products being sold (e.g., LIMS, R&D software, cloud solutions, data analytics platforms) and their applications in a research or clinical setting is essential.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and trust with scientific professionals and IT staff.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team.
- Problem-solving ability to translate complex technical information into clear, valuable solutions for clients.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Validated systems, COTS applications.
- Hands-on experience with Pharma clients.
- Experience in handling sales for small to medium level IT companies.
- Japanese and English language proficiency.
